PREVIEW

Play List: Tracy, can we hear you tonight?(The Guide)

The News Letter (Belfast, Northern Ireland), March 14, 2003, Byline: Jeff Magill & Gary Gilliland

ON Tuesday night, the exquisite Tracy Chapman will take to the stage in the Waterfront Hall for the Belfast date of her Let It Rain UK tour.
There hasn’t been much of a build up to her current tour but that hasn’t stopped her Belfast date completely selling out.
That is most likely because Tracy’s name is synonymous with quality music. Her brand of beautifully-crafted, emotive songs has won her millions of fans worldwide, many of whom were hooked from the moment they heard 1988’s smash hits Fast Car.
Tracy may now been back in the public’s consciousness with her stunning sixth album Let It Rain, but, in truth, the gig probably would have sold out anyway. Fans would more than likely have been happy to just listen to old but timeless material from albums like telling Stories, Crossroads or New beginning.
With any luck, she’ll perform Baby Can I Hold You Tonight and remind us how the song was originally intended – before Boyzone murdered it.
