Herbie Hancock is working on a new album due out in 2010, which takes from different cultures. He describes it as capturing “peace through global collaboration.” The album pairs artists such as Chaka Khan with Ravi Shankar’s daughter Anoushka Shankar and Tracy Chapman with West African singer Oumou Sangare. Other musicians he’s tapped for the album include Jeff Beck and Dave Matthews. (Source AP, Aug 5, 2009)

Tracy Chapman also mentionned this collaboration into an interview she gave to the French press in July 2009: “I feel like collaborating with other musicians. I don’t have a precise list to give you, but Herbie Hancock has an album in preparation and I could be part of it, with african musicians” (“J’ai envie de collaborer avec d’autres musiciens. Je n’ai pas une liste précise à vous soumettre, mais Herbie Hancock a un projet de disque et je pourrais y participer, avec des musiciens africains“). (Source: Version Femina, July 2009)

Tracy Chapman and Oumou Sangare already met at the Global Divas V concert, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on July 11, 2004
